As the demand for healthcare in the region is being driven by ageing demographics and the increasing prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases, Thailand continues on its upward climb as the medical and healthcare hub of the region due to its strategic location gateway to ASEAN. With this, the need and demand for quality medical products and healthcare services is also growing significantly.
Hong Kong companies are in a good position to serve the needs of the region as its export of medical instruments and appliances continue to rise, with their edge in quality assurance and intellectual property (IP) protection.
Against this backdrop, MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2019 welcomes the debut of the Hong Kong Pavilion to the show floor with 10 companies representing a broad spectrum of the medical and healthcare sector.

We had the pleasure to speak with Mr Sunny Chau, Director, Thailand and South Asia of Hong Kong Trade Development Council to find out more about the exhibiting companies under the Hong Kong Pavilion, and Thailand’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
Q: What types of technology and products can we expect to see from companies exhibiting at the Hong Kong pavilion at MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2019?
SC: In the Hong Kong pavilion, you will see a variety of technology and products ranging from IoT solutions for healthcare industries to different breakthrough products to assist surgical procedures or hospital operations.
You will also meet companies that provide various patient safety solutions, risk assessment tools and senior safety care technology.

| Q: Hong Kong’s export market of medical and healthcare equipment to ASEAN has been growing over the years, how do you see Hong Kong companies expanding their business footprint in Thailand and the Southeast Asian region? |

SC: Hong Kong produces excellent medical research, with the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University producing quality medical contribution. With the government’s effort in commercialising technology, there are a growing number of Medtech start-ups in Hong Kong. Thailand being a medical tourism hub is an excellent market for Hong Kong Medtech companies to tap into.
Q. How significant is a trade exhibition such as MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND to HKTDC and the exhibiting companies?
SC: A trade exhibition such as MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND is a useful platform for HKTDC to assist Hong Kong companies to tap into the lucrative ASEAN market, as well as gathering market intelligence, as the Fair would gather major industry players in the region to come.
